MUSIC AT SAINT TIMOTHY'S

St. Timothy's Episcopal Church Creve Coeur Missouri, near St. Louis

Music is a powerful and deep expression of faith that reflects our common life at Saint Timothy's. Under the leadership of a professional Director of Music, all participation in musical groups is by volunteers and opportunities are offered for all age groups. Building on the musical and liturgical foundations which have been established over the past several years, all music offered in our liturgies is from a variety of historical periods and styles within a basic, traditionally Anglican repertoire.

There are three exciting and noteworthy events which have recently impacted the liturgical music of Saint Timothy's in a unique and positive way. One is our fantastic worship space with its fabulous acoustics; the second is the addition of two beautiful Grand Pianos, one in the principal worship space and one in the chapel; and the third is our new 11 rank Schantz pipe organ (It is beautiful to look at as well as to listen to).

This group of high school age and adult volunteers participates in worship regularly both by themselves and as accompanists to our choir and congregation. The Saint Timothy String Quartet (Ensemble)

The String Quartet working with volunteer director, Winifred Crock, is an outstanding group of high school and adult musicians that participates in worship about four times per year. Using a predominantly classical repertoire, the string ensemble adds significantly to our musical life by playing alone and by accompanying the choir and congregation. (A more advanced skill level on an orchestral string instrument is required for this group.)

Their contribution to the worship life of Saint Timothy's is significant. (A more advanced skill level on a brass instrument is required for this group.)

The Saint Timothy Youth Choir

The Youth Choir consists of boys and girls of upper elementary, junior high, and high school age. This vested choir sings in worship six Sundays between September and May. They also participate in the Flower Festival Eucharist at Christ Church Cathedral in the Spring.

The Saint Timothy Cherub Choir

This musical group for younger youth (pre-school through 4th grade) is offered specifically as a part of the Christian Education Program and meets during the first 15 minutes of Sunday School every Sunday during the Christian Education Season. This choir learns age appropriate music and provides support for the Family Eucharist. We plan for them to sing at the 10:30 liturgy in the Spring. Jane Wyland is the volunteer director for this choir.

We also have numerous instrumentalists (including bagpipers) and vocalists who are members of Saint Timothy's Parish and who provide solos and other special music both for worship and other Parish functions. In short, Saint Timothy's Parish is a group of people who consistently support music throughout its common life and we are most assuredly a musical and a "singing" congregation. Please contact Saint Timothy's Director of Music, Dean Bye, either by Email or by phone for information on participation in this ministry!
