What's in Your Heart?
St. Timothy's Episcopal Church Creve Coeur Missouri, near St. LouisWorld Food Day Commemoration
October 15-16, 2010
at the Donald Danforth Plant Science Center
St. Tim's is organizing two teams, one for Friday evening and one for Saturday morning to bag and seal life- sustaining meals for sub Saharan Africa. Joining with other organizations, we hope to learn about world hunger and to do something to provide nourishment as well. Children 7 and over have an opportunity to participate. See details in the gathering space and sign up!
New Partnership with St. Paul's Parish in South City
In July and August several St. Tim's vestry members and St. Tim's families joined the Hammer and Nails Team and St. Paul's vestry in a project to update the rectory at St. Paul's. Great progress and fun!
"What's In Your Heart Project?" provided the impetus for starting the community garden:

Community Garden
Watch our garden grow. Planting was done Friday April 30 and Saturday May 1 at the garden site to the northeast of our parking lot. Join us...Families welcome. We need you to water and weed! When without rain, we need to water every day. In July watering teams were led by Florrie Kohn, Nancy Setzer, Angela Mitchell-Phillips, Norma Rayfield, and Karen Sharp. Tomatoes and cucumbers have survived the heat the best. We welcome ideas for next year!
Update Sigel School Partnership
On the last day of school, cookies were delivered to Sigel School on your behalf to thank the teachers for their leadership all year and especially during state MAP testing for three weeks in April. Thank you to Rita Podolsky and Lynn Whittington for baking the cookies and to Kurt Zwikelmaier for delivering them. St. Timothy's sent a plant to Evelyn Woods, principal of Sigel School, after the death of her four year old grandson Jaysen Elijah Woods. Caroline Kelsey delivered the plant on behalf of our community.
Principal Evelyn Woods and Saint Louis Public School representative Karen Hylton were our guests at Adult Forum on May 2. They were pleased with the rousing welcome and great questions as they addressed St. Tim's faith-based community partnership with Sigel!
UTO (United Thank Offering) Ingathering
Thank you for the $750 collected and sent to UTO and to Rosemary Jasper for chairing this Outreach project. Watch for the next opportunity!
"What's in Your Heart?" Project Full of Promise

The Outreach Teams gathered much information about St. Tim's passions and what members (young and not as young) hold in their hearts. The team will use these great ideas to plan future outreach projects. Thanks to all who contributed. Stand by to see expanded "Love in Action."
Update from Sigel School! Hats off to St. Timothy’s awesome painting team (painters’ caps of course!), Paul and Keith Pennel, Emily Bloemker, Tina Heuer, Laverne Riebold and Carolyn Moore. This group painted the soon-to-be reading room at Sigel school primary crayon yellow. Mrs. Woods chose yellow because it “stimulates the brain and makes you more alert, decisive and energetic….yellow activates the lymph system. It can also be associated with discernment, memory, clear thinking, decision- making and good judgment.” Mrs. Woods’ has a colorful children’s area rug for the room, and her vision for the room is to decorate it in primary colors (red, blue, green, orange, and purple) with: 4-shelf bookcases (about 5 or 6), 2 beanbag chairs, 1 papasan chair, and 2 or 3 small tables. Meanwhile, the room is ready for the next steps.
Hooray! St. Timothy's tutors are working in Sigel Elementary School. The work is challenging, rewarding and fun. The teachers and students are happy to see us. We have begun to make a difference. I was working with a student in a 4th grade classroom, when Kurt Zwiklemaier entered the room. Children in the class began a quiet chorus of Mr. Z! They were delighted to see him. Marc Vanacht worked so well in the 3rd grade classroom with the most language diversity that Mrs. Alexander, the Teaching and Learning Facilitator, asked some of us not to pull our students out, but to work in the classroom. I'm sure being multilingual makes Marc an asset to the teacher and students in the class. Stan Viglione is also working with a few 4th grade students. His students always look happy to have worked with him when they reenter the classroom. I can already see the two students with whom I work put forth more effort to complete their work accurately. Volunteer Bob Levitt is also lending his patience and expertise working with students at Sigel Elementary. We still have a few qualified volunteers who are waiting to contact the school and receive their assignments. The effort is both enriching and rewarding, and I think the students and teachers know that St. Timothy's cares about them.
Some of you have indicated that you may join us in the future. If you are considering doing so, please complete the application in preparation for working in the school. It is the clearance process that takes time. If you have that process completed, you will be able to work in the school whenever you decide to do so. Kathy Rogers has applications at the church. Sigel Elementary has many more students who need help. Easy access: East on 40/64, right on Jefferson and left on Allen.
